'The Wake of Jamey Foster'
by Beth Henley

Stay tuned for upcoming auditions for CTC's staged reading of 'The Wake of Jamey Foster,' by Pulitzer-prize winner Beth Henley.

Performers will be paid a stipend for their work and will be expected to be available for 4-5 rehearsals, as well as for the final performance.

Set in a small town in Mississippi, 'The Wake of Jamey Foster' watches a family unravel as they grapple the ignominious death of a pivotal member.
Buried secrets come to light and unbreakable bonds are tested, forcing all involved to face the expanse between their public masks and who the world has created them to be.

Witty, insightful, hilarious and devastating, 'The Wake of Jamey Foster' questions what it means to survive, how we forge a path forward in the face of the incomprehensible and how we live with what we leave behind.
Available roles include:

Marshael Foster - early 30s's to mid 40's - female presenting
Conflicted widow of the deceased, Marshael is hanging to her sanity by a shred, but she'll be damned if you try to fix her.
Wry, sharp and barreling ahead despite the odds, Marshael is not one to be told, toyed with, or underestimated.

Wayne Foster - early 30's to late 40's - male presenting
Brother of the deceased and Marshael's brother-in-law, Wayne is a big man around town, at least to hear him tell it.
Unafraid to step on toes, give his opinion or pour another glass, Wayne will vacillate between holding on to control with all his might and slowly crumbling under the devastating reality of his life.

Katty Foster - early 30's to mid 40's - female presenting
Wayne's wife and sister-in-law of the deceased, Katty wants everything perfect as can be and will do all she can to keep herself and the whole ship afloat.
As liquor starts to flow and skeletons creep out of closets, Katty's cheerful and tidy facade will fail as the correct world she clings to threatens to shatter in a million pieces.

Collard Darnell - late 20's to early 40's - female presenting
Marshael's and Leon's sister, Collard is the wild-child sister-in-law of the deceased. Funny and whip smart but left painfully insecure by experiences in her childhood, Collard is determined to keep moving, run far and get the most she thinks she can out of life.
Don't be surprised (though she might be) if Collard is revealed to be the most stable and honest voice in this house.

Leon Darnell - early 20's to mid 30's - male presenting
Leon is Marshael and Collard's brother, brother-in-law of the deceased. He may not be the most brilliant in the room but arguably has the biggest heart. All Leon wants is to love and be loved, and to do everything he can to make his family (and Pixrose Wilson) happy.

Pixrose Wilson - late teens to late 20's - female presenting
Beleagured orphan Pixrose may be just an itty-bitty thing, but wait until you hear the big stories she has to tell. Despite her childlike honesty and optimisim, the scars of her past stand and remind her that the world isn't quite as wonderful and may not hold as much for her as she hopes.

Brocker Slade - late 30's to early 50's -male presenting
A diamond in the rough, Brocker works with his hands, keeps to himself and belongs to no one and nothing (not even that ole' flea-bitten dog). But he might be willing to lose his head and his heart if Marshael would look his way again...

Kid - 8-20ish - Any gender
One scene at the beginning of the play but man does this kid make it count! Funny, sharp and able to give us good as they get, this kid will make a lasting impression for sure.
