Cornerstone Theatre Company is thrilled to announce our

upcoming production of David Ives's Venus in Fur.

Venus in Fur  will be directed by Jamie M. Rea and performed at CoHo Theatre  (2257 NW Raleigh St) between January 14th and January 24th, 2027. There will be a total of 10 performances (Thursday-Saturday evenings with matinees on Saturday and Sunday). Stay tuned for more info regarding showtimes and casting.

This is a 2-person tempest in a teapot, an epic timely and timeless struggle contained in about 90 minutes in a shabby audition room. In this funny, fiery, erotic and surprising play, Vanda and Thomas take us on an engrossing journey at a breakneck pace. When Vanda turns up (way late) to audition for Thomas's stage adaptation of Sacher-Masoch's 'Venus in Furs,' Thomas's world begins to rip apart at the seams.

 

Venus in Fur is an enthralling exploration of intimacy, inner lives and the churning below the surface. It holds up a mirror. It gives us no breaks, no outs. It is charming, endearing, searingly funny, and alluring, while forcing us to sit with discomfort, to confront the unsettling, to question. To call this play a battle of the sexes is only beginning to scratch the surface.

 

Venus in Fur opened off-Broadway in 2010 at Classic Stage Company. After an extended run it was transferred to Broadway via the Manhattan Theatre Club. It was nominated for Best Play at the 2011-2012 season Tonys and won Nina Arianda a Tony Award for her portrayal of Vanda. The play received it's West End premier in 2017.
